Amadeus, directed by Anna Vechur

Premiere on July 8, 2022. DRAMA THEATER

The last premiere of the 2021/222 season at the Drama Theater m.st, Warsaw was a performance of Amadeus

The play was based on a play by Peter Schaffer (1979), based on the biographies of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, as well as a popular legend that the composer was to be poisoned by Mozart's jealous talent, his great rival Salieri. Antonio Salieri was considered a ruthless, unscrupulous, scheming man to establish his position at the imperial court.

Mozart spent the last years of his life in Vienna. He died on December 5, 1791. The researchers did not confirm the connection between Salieri and Mozart, their rivalry, because the field of their musical activity did not overlap. Moreover, they did not confirm the possibility of Salieri's assistance in Mozart's death.

Nevertheless, Mozart, who was very ill in the last period of his life, had to say to his wife Constance: "Yes, I see that I am ill, so that I would come up with such a ridiculous idea as if I were given poison, I would go back to work on the Requiem."They say the dying 26. years later, Salieri, mired in dementia, confessed that he had killed Mozart.

Alexander Pushkin, in his stage miniature Mozart and Salieri, was the first to introduce the motif of competition between the talented Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the mediocre composer Antonio Salieri, kapellmeister at the court of Emperor Joseph II of Habsburg. Rimsky-Korsakov followed Pushkin's one-act approach with minimal reworking of the text. In his opera, he even added inserts from Mozart's works to his score.

The theme of the rivalry between the two composers and the intrigue that led to the downfall and death of a brilliant composer, one of the three, along with Joseph Haydn and Ludwig Van Beethoven, the great Viennese classics used in his drama Amadeus Peter Schaffer. The play has received many realizations, including on Polish stages. The most famous adaptation of the play remains the film by Milos Forman”Amadeus", which won the Academy Award (1984). Peter Shaffer won an Academy Award (1984) and a Golden Globe Zloty (1985) for his adaptation of the play for a new film.
