After Oedipus leaves Thebes, his twin sons Polineykes and Eteocles inherit power. They are to co-ruler alternating every year. However, Eteocles, who was the first to rule, refuses to give up the throne. Polynices with his army marches on Thebes, the scales of victory tipping to one side or the other. In order to stop the bloodshed, Polynices challenges Eteocles to a duel. In a fratricidal fight, they both die and their mother's brother Kreon takes the throne. The new ruler orders the defenders of Thebes to be buried with honours, and the bodies of the invaders to be left unburied at the city walls. The story of the family, which began with the parricide committed by Oedipus, ends with a fratricidal dispute between his sons. However, Oedipus' daughters, the sisters, who were forbidden to bury their brother, remained in Thebes....<\/span>

Antigone and Ismena. Ismena and Antigone. Sisters, the closest beings to each other, yet so different. Or maybe not? Perhaps they both feel and think alike and only, for different reasons, act differently? We know Antigone as the steadfast, rebellious one, the one who dared to say 'no'. But what if Ismene, whom we are used to suspect of passivity and servile inertia, is simply prudent, sensible and equally capable? Only the text of the tragedy can help us in our search for answers. Let's take a look, then, at what the sisters face - not only towards Creon, but also towards each other.<\/span><\/div>\n
